Soon after 5 a.m. on November 11, 1918, German, British and French authorities assembled inside a railroad eating vehicle in a dim woodland north of Paris and marked a truce to end World War I. Dismissing German calls to quickly end threats, Allied authority Ferdinand Foch directed that the firearms would fall quiet at 11 a.m. to some extent to permit information on the truce to be sent to the cutting edges.

“According to an American perspective there was a blended response, and the Germans were shocked that the Americans were all the while battling so overwhelmingly. They figured things would hush up. The Allies, however, needed to show the Germans that they planned to press until the last hour so they realized they were not kidding about the peace negotiation terms.”
