Lena Meijer Death – Meijer, Lena 5/14/1919 – 1/15/2022 Lena Meijer, a caring wife, mother, grandma, and extraordinary grandma, companion, and accomplice of the late retailing business person Fred Meijer, kicked the bucket January 15, 2022, at 102 years old. Lena was conceived May 14, 1919, on the family ranch close to Lakeview, Michigan. She was the girl of German outsiders George Rader and Mary Lutterloh Rader. Lena moved to Greenville, Michigan in 1940, where she was recruited by Hendrik Meijer as a clerk in the first Meijer grocery store.
It was there that she met Fred Meijer, the food merchant’s child. They were hitched in 1946. The couple move to Grand Rapids in 1951 and Lena kept on working in the business until the birth in 1952 of the first of three children. Lena was exceptionally dynamic in the Grand Rapids Public Schools, chipping in much of the time as an individual from the Aberdeen School PTA, just as serving in other urban jobs and chipping in at school capacities from paper drives to cake strolls.
